Mayen Couture is a contemporary African fashion house redefining elegance through the art of sustainable design.
Founded in 2015 by Mercy Abulu, a designer with a master’s degree in environmental technology from Imperial College London and an MPH degree in Epidemiology from the University of Texas Medical Center in Houston the brand blends sophistication, culture, and conscience into every creation.
After more than twenty years in the corporate world, Mercy’s journey into fashion began during her family’s relocation to Houston and Norway, where she nurtured her passion for design. Upon returning to Nigeria, she discovered that many professional women struggled to find clothing that was stylish, comfortable, and appropriate for work. Inspired by this challenge, she created Mayen Couture a label that transforms locally made African fabrics into timeless, versatile pieces for the modern woman.
Each Mayen Couture collection reflects a commitment to style with purpose. Using mostly locally sourced fabrics, the brand collaborates with artisans and tailors across West Africa to produce exquisite hand-dyed and handwoven textiles. Since 2017, these partnerships have supported fair wages and full-time employment, empowering communities and preserving traditional craftsmanship.
